Requirements
General Requirements
- 1 Schengen visa application form completed online (Click here)

Duly filled in, dated and signed, sign where ever it says signature
- 2 passport-size colour photographs,
Not older than 6 months, (undamaged, of good quality and of recent date).
Do not staple or damage the photo, the background has to be light and plain. For more details, please refer to (Photo Specs)
- Valid national passport
issued within the last 10 years, with at least 3 months validity after the scheduled return from the Schengen States and with at least 2 blank pages.
- Round trip reservation and detailed itinerary
Including dates and flight numbers specifying the dates of entry and exit from the territory of the Member States.
If applicable: proof of Inter- Schengen travel (car rental/flights/train and/or bus tickets).
Important: Do not buy the actual flight ticket before the visa has been issued.
- Overseas medical travel insurance for Schengen States/Europe stating the following:
Minimum coverage of EUR 30’000
Medical treatments and repatriation included
Certificate of Insurance valid for the entire duration of the intended stay
The policy must state policy number, the name of the ensured applicant, covered dates as well as scheduled benefits (please allow for extra days for the embassy to be more flexible with the duration of the visa).
- Accommodation
Photocopy of hotel bookings or tour arrangements in Switzerland and the other Schengen States for the duration of the intended stay.
In case of a pre-paid tour: details of the tour with a proof of payment to the tour operator.
- Employment letter
Recent original and signed letter of employment from the employer in the country of residence addressed to the Swiss Embassy stating: the monthly wages, purpose, and duration of the trip to Switzerland and the continuing employment after the period of leave with the specific date of returning to work
If self-employed: a certification from SA Companies and Intellectual Property Commission or SA Revenue Service.
If a student: letter from school/college/university in South Africa certifying the student status of the applicant
- Financial means
Current 3 months bank statement of private bank account or current 3 months bank statement of business (if self-employed) baring original bank stamp and applicants details.
Sufficient funds (approx. CHF 100.00 per day for Adults and approx. CHF 30.00 for students) will be required.
- Photocopy of the passport including the signature page and previous Schengen visas
Additional documents for Business Visa
- Invitation letter from the inviting company/organization in Switzerland.
The invitation must be signed by an authorized person. It should contain the following information:
Name, first name, and date of birth of the person
Passport no. of every person who is invited
Purpose of visit
Length of stay with entry and departure dates
Who will cover the expenses for traveling and accommodation
In case a one-year multiple entries visa is requested, it has to be explicitly requested by both companies in South Africa and Switzerland, mentioning the frequency of the foreseen meetings. However, please note, that whether a one year visa is granted or not is decided on a case to case basis.
Minors: (under the age of 18)
- Both parents must sign the visa application form.
- We need the following:
- The minor’s unabridged birth certificate (containing fathers and mother name)
- Certified copies of ID/passport of both parents
- Certified copies of Schengen Visa of both parents (if in possession of and if traveling with the child
- If the minor travels alone: certified parental consent by both parents
- If the minor travels with only one parent: the other parent must produce certified consent.
- If only one parent has guardianship of the minor, the relevant court documents / or death certificate
Important Note
- Applicant does not have to do biometrics if he had a previous Schengen Visa issued within 59 months with the remark “VIS” in the Visa (Sample of VIS)
- Where the Issuing Authority requires applicants to present themselves for biometrics ON SUBMISSION. Flash Visa Services will do a quality check of documents you provide, book the visa appointment and pre-pay the visa for lodgement. A Flash Visa Services representative will meet you and guide you through the visa process on the day of your appointment.
- Visas are required by South African passport holders.
- If your main travel destination is Croatia, Romania or Serbia
Applicants with main travel destination Croatia, Romania or Serbia, need to be in possession of a valid visa of the respected country before applying for a Swiss Schengen visa. - Visa applications will be rejected if application forms are not fully completed & signed & are not accompanied by the required documents.
- The possession of a visa is only one of the pre-requisites for entry into the territory of the Schengen state’s Border, authorities may refuse entry, no claim to reimbursement of the visa can be submitted.
- The Schengen state’s consular offices reserve the right to request further documentation should it be deemed necessary.
- For organized groups, arrangements should be made well in advance with the relevant issuing authority.
- There is no guarantee that a visa will be issued.
- Visa processing fees are not reimbursable if a visa is rejected.
- Certified parental consent, by both parents for children under 18 traveling alone. If the child travels with only one parent, the other parent must produce the notarized/certified consent. If only one parent has guardianship of the minor, the court documents stating so must be presented.
- The unabridged birth certificate must be submitted to identify the parents of the child.
