General Requirements

- Passport
Passport needs to be valid at least 6 months after return.
Passport needs to be signed at the back
Passport needs to have at least 3 blank pages.
- Photo
Biometric Photos, with white background
- Air ticket and itinerary
Ticket must specify dates and flight numbers with entry and exit from Schengen state
- Health insurance.
Travel insurance with minimum medical coverage of the Rand equivalent of EURO 30.000,00.
Applicants must present insurance policy that states policy number, the name of insured person, validity and schedule benefits. The insurance must cover medical attention.
- Proof of sufficient means of subsistence during the intended stay:
Bank statement specifying applicants name for the past three months, unless all the expenses are covered by the employer or the host
CASH IS NOT ACCEPTED AS PROOF OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE.
- Proof of employment:
a letter from the company stating monthly wages, continuing employment after the period of leave and duration of vacation etc
Self-employed: a certification from SA Companies and Intellectual Property Commission or SA Revenue Service is required
Student: Letter from school/college/university in South Africa certifying the student status of the applicant.
- Accommodation
Proof of accommodation for the duration of the intended stay. If accommodation costs are covered by another entity, this must be clearly stated in the invitation letter
If applicant is staying with a relative or friend; Invitation form (no 240011/241011) with supporting documents for reference person or an invitation letter in another format specifying identify the host and the invitee (name, address, birthdate, official identification number, occupation and permanent residence); the purpose of the visit; length of stay and accommodation status (where will the invitee stay and who pays for it)
Pre-paid tour, details of the tour and proof of payment to the tour operator should be provided
Additional requirements for business
- Invitation letter
The invitation letter must clearly identify the host and the invitee (name, address, birthdate, official identification number, occupation, and permanent residence), the purpose of the visit; length of stay and accommodation status (where will the invitee stay and who pays for it)
Additional requirements for Minors
Minors: unabridged birth certificate and certified copies of ID/passport of both parents -if the minor travels alone: certified parental consent by both parents
if the minor travels with only one parent, the other parent must produce the certified consent. If only one parent has guardianship of the minor, the relevant court documents must be presented.
The unabridged birth certificate must be submitted to identify the parents of the child.

- The Issuing Authority requires applicants to present themselves for biometrics ON SUBMISSION.

- Visas are required by South African passport holders.
- Visa applications will be rejected if application forms are not fully completed & signed & are not accompanied by the required documents.
- The possession of a visa is only one of the pre-requisites for entry into the territory of the Schengen state’s Border, authorities may refuse entry, no claim to reimbursement of the visa can be submitted.
- The Schengen state’s consular offices reserve the right to request further documentation should it be deemed necessary.
- For organized groups, arrangements should be made well in advance with the relevant issuing authority.
- There is no guarantee that a visa will be issued.
- Visa processing fees are not reimbursable if a visa is rejected.
- Certified parental consent, by both parents for children under 18 traveling alone. If the child travels with only one parent, the other parent must produce the notarized/certified consent. If only one parent has guardianship of the minor, the court documents stating so must be presented.
- The unabridged birth certificate must be submitted to identify the parents of the child.
