General Requirements

Fully completed and signed):
Provincial jurisdiction: Pretoria – only residents in Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpumalanga,
North West, Free State, and Lesotho. Cape Town – all coastal regions
Please note that legal residents in Durban can apply for visas at the Embassy of Spain in Pretoria or at the Consulate General of Spain in Cape Town.
- Passport (original)
Valid at least 3 months beyond the stay in Spain.
Issued with a maximum of 10 years of validity.
With at least 2 blank pages.
- Photograph
1 recent colour photograph; size: 4.5cmx3.5cm.
Not more than 6 months old.
With a white background.
The acceptable format involves visibly showing facial characteristics of the applicant, from the tip of the chin to the top of the head, counting both, left and right, sides of the face, while the face is positioned in the center of the photo. Both ears must be shown.
- Itinerary:
The trip to Spain drawn up by applicant entailing details on:
Dates of the trip.
Entries and exit from each Schengen state.
Amount of days in each country and the total amount in Schengen states.
- Means of transport:
Valid flight ticket/train ticket/ferry ticket booked according to passport showing Spain as the main destination, reservations aren’t accepted.
Movement between the Schengen states must be shown (flights, car hire, train bookings)
- Accommodation for the entire period of the stay in the Schengen territory must be presented in:
Hotel booking/reservation, time-sharing booking (with the name of the applicant on it or explanation on who the person has booked is).
Tours and cruises need to come with the paid invoice.
In case of private invitation – official letter of invitation, authorized by the police in Spain, a copy of the host’s passport/ID in all Schengen countries visiting with utility bills (water, electricity, etc.) and civil registration.
When payment has been made for private accommodation (villa, house, apartment), the owner must provide a copy of his passport and proof of ownership (property ownership or leasing) and an official letter of invitation, authorized by the police in Spain.
- Medical Travel Insurance
Travel insurance certificate issued by insurance company as per the EU guidelines.
Name of the beneficiary (according to passport), validity, and schedule of benefit and amount covered. Medical repatriation expenses must be included.
Insurance must cover assistance in the Schengen area not “reimbursement” and a coverage minimum of 30.000 €.
- Letter of employment
Provide a signed original letter of employment stating salary/annual cost to company and date of employment inception.
Self-employment (directors, CEO, Board Members): proof of company registration (commercial license or latest VAT certificate)
- Proof of economic means:
Present, not older than a month, original last 3 months bank statements (savings, cheque, credit card account etc) must be stamped by the bank. Expenses covered by the company do not exempt from personal bank statements.
For stays up to 9 days, the minimum amount required is 580,77Euros approx. (R8300 per person approx.). For stays for more than 9 days add an additional amount of 64,53Euros per day (R790 per person).
Booking of foreign exchange could be taken into consideration.
If sponsored, a letter signed by the sponsor and their bank statements (sponsors are spouses, parents or other direct relatives).
When using companies ́ bank statements, the proof of the company registration confirming the business and name of owner (commercial license OR latest VAT certificate) must be submitted.
If no bank account, provide an affidavit explaining the same.
In case of an overdraft, an overdraft summary report must be submitted.
- Proof of residence (eg. Utility bill)
Additional requirements for Business Visa
- Business/Professional Trips/Conference:
- Letter of invitation from Host Company or Authority in Spain, stating purpose and relation with the invited company/person. The invitation must be signed by the person inviting and give contact details of the company/person inviting. The letter must be written in Spanish if addressed to the Consulate
- Original letter of employment confirming the purpose of trip, dates, relation with the Spanish company and applicant’s employment status must be signed.
- Proof of registration with the organizer of the conference or fair.
For minor applicants:
- Certified copy of the full or unabridged birth certificate. The unabridged birth certificate is needed even if both parents are traveling with the minor(s).
- In case the minor is traveling alone or with one parent, a certified written consent letter from the parent/legal guardian signed before the commissioner of Oath with the full or unabridged birth certificate.
- Certified copy of parent’s ID or passport.
- Signed original letter from the school confirming enrollment, confirming travel dates, and date of return
Important Note
- Applicant does not have to do biometrics if he had a previous Schengen Visa issued within 59 months with the remark “VIS” in the Visa (Sample of VIS)
- Where the Issuing Authority requires applicants to present themselves for biometrics ON SUBMISSION. Flash Visa Services will do a quality check of documents you provide, book the visa appointment and pre-pay the visa for lodgement. - Visas are required by South African passport holders.
- Visa applications will be rejected if application forms are not fully completed & signed & are not accompanied by the required documents.
- The possession of a visa is only one of the pre-requisites for entry into the territory of the Schengen state’s Border, authorities may refuse entry, no claim to reimbursement of the visa can be submitted.
- The Schengen state’s consular offices reserve the right to request further documentation should it be deemed necessary.
- For organized groups, arrangements should be made well in advance with the relevant issuing authority.
- There is no guarantee that a visa will be issued.
- Visa processing fees are not reimbursable if a visa is rejected.
- Certified parental consent, by both parents for children under 18 traveling alone. If the child travels with only one parent, the other parent must produce the notarized/certified consent. If only one parent has guardianship of the minor, the court documents stating so must be presented.
- The unabridged birth certificate must be submitted to identify the parents of the child.
